Another body dug out, Kozhikode landslip toll rises to 14 The landslide triggered by unprecedented rainfall in the region buried houses and killed its inhabitants, including children, making it the biggest landslide calamity that Kozhikode has witnessed.

Kozhikode: The body of one more person, who had gone missing after a landslide struck Karinchola area at Thamaraserry, has been recovered, thus taking the death toll in the tragedy to 14.

The last body recovered on Monday has been identified as Nafeesa. Bodies of Nafeesa's husband Abdu Rahiman, son Jaffer and Jaffer's son Muhammed Jasim were already recovered.

Members of two other families also died in Thursday's disaster, where, rescue operations continued till Monday. They were identified as Karinchola Hassan, wife Asiya, daughter Nusrath, Nusrath's daughters, Rinsha Meharin and Rifa Mariyam, daughter-in-law Shamna, Shamna's daughter Niya Fathima, and Hassan's and Asiya's youngest daughter Jannath. Karinchola Abdul Saleem's daughter Dilna Sherin and son Muhammed Shahabas were also killed in the mishap.

Meanwhile, there were attempts to manhandle Karat Razak MLA at Kattippara gramapanchayat, where an all-party meeting was convened. The volunteers demanded to speak and when MLA let the officials spoke, he was stopped, which led to a scuffle. The MLA sought treatment at Thamarassery taluk hospital here following the scuffle.

Two teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was camping in the area, along with the locals. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) as well as dog squad were used in the search operations.
