As per the UGC guidelines, the admission process should be completed in Central Universities before October 31
The UGC has stated that it will file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the appointment of Priya Varghese.
The various departments at the University of Kerala have already decided to begin four-year degree courses. Colleges affiliated to the University would be granted approval if they show interest in the new programme.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that "we need to de-link degrees from competency and envision a future where competency would prevail".
More outreach programmes should be rolled out to lure such students to higher education institutions, according to the draft guidelines.
According to the commission, higher education institutions play an important role in preparing textbooks and supporting the teaching-learning process in the mother tongue/local languages.
The University Grants Commission has made it mandatory to appoint representatives from the Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and women either as chairperson or members of these committees.
A total of 8,34,537 candidates appeared for the examinations held in five phases for 83 subjects from February 21 to March 16, 2023.
The new guidelines have been finalised under the aegis of agencies like the UGC, AICTE, National Council for Vocational Education and Training, NCERT, and the Central School Education Department.
The National Credit Framework (NCrF) will integrate learning at multiple axes, like academics, vocational skills, and even experiential learning including relevant experiences and proficiency/professional levels acquired.
