Kochi: Amid the raging controversy over the Association for Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA)'s decision to reinstate his membership, actor Dileep on Thursday came out with a clarification that he does not wish to be active in any organisation until he is exonerated in the sensational actress attack case of February 17, 2017.
In a letter written to the general secretary of AMMA, Dileep said he had been trapped in a case in which he had no role at all. "I do not wish to be active in any association until my innocence is proven," he said.
He said he had taken a similar stance when the FEOUK decided to reinstate his membership.
AMMA's decision to revoke the expulsion of Dileep snowballed into a controversy after four women actors, including the victim of the brutal attack, resigned from the association in protest. Dileep was expelled from AMMA a day after he was arrested in connection with the case, on July 10 last year. Dileep is out on bail after spending 85 days in jail.
A general body of the AMMA which met here on June 24 decided to revoke the decision to oust Dileep citing that it would not stand legal scrutiny since it was one-sided.
Dileep, in the letter shared on his Facebook page, thanked the association for the decision. He said he was pained to see the association, which helps a number of artists survive, being embarrassed over the decision.
AMMA had to face the wrath of many for the decision to take back Dileep who is accused of plotting abduction and sexual assault of a colleague.
