Dileep in police custody. PTIKochi: With the police failing to submit a copy of the first investigation report (FIR), the Directorate of Enforcement investigation into the economic irregularities against actor Dileep has come to a naught.
The actor, currently lodged at the Aluva sub jail in connection with the actress attack case, was under investigation for murky financial deals and land grabs. Even two weeks after a formal request was made, the police have apparently not submitted any documents regarding the investigation to the economic intelligence unit.
Mobile phone still missing
Meanwhile, the police are on a hunt to recover the mobile phone that was used to film the gruesome sexual assault on the actress. They had also raised this issue before the court while seeking an extended remand custody of the actor.
The police are investigating the veracity of the claims that the mobile phone used in the crime has been shipped out of the country. Several people close to Dileep, who had undertaken foreign trips during the period after February 17, when the actress was waylaid and attacked at Kochi, are under police watch.
Advocate Pratheesh Chacko, who represented main accused Pulsar Suni initially, had reportedly
told the police that the mobile phone was destroyed. His junior advocate had also reiterated this.
The forces have been chasing the mobile phone and they had recently interrogated actress Kavya Madhavan, Dileep's wife, to find leads into the suspicion that Suni deposited the mobile phone or the memory card at her Kakkanad boutique.
Dileep is set to approach the High Court next week with a fresh bail application before which the police must garner more evidence to prove his role in the crime.
His earlier plea was rejected by the High Court and his remand period was extended till August 8.
