Babubhai and his family were not able to come to terms with the fact that they were going to travel in a flight. They have only seen planes cruising the skies. They are unable to express what they feel when they are about to travel in a flight across the seas.
Karuna Qatar, a cultural organization in Qatar that spearheads a lot of cultural programs in the country, is flying in the singers to present their music and songs to the audience there.
Babu Shankar and Lata will be presenting the songs of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Mannade and Lata Mangeshkar, while their daughter Kousaliya will sing popular Malayalam songs.
Organized by Karuna Qatar, the program titled 'Indian Coffee House-Voice of Street' will be held on December 21 at the Indian Cultural Centre's Ashoka Hall.
It is for the first time street singers are flown in to perform in Qatar.
Babu Shankar came to Kozhikode along with his father Shankar some four-and-a-half decades ago from Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Since then he has been singing on streets of Palayam, KSRTC bus-stand and beach. After his win in a private channel’s music contest, Babu Shankar became popular outside Kozhikode.
The win gave Babu Shankar and family a house. Their participation in a Safdar Hashmi Natya Sangam program opened the door for Babu Shankar to the Qatar event.
