My son should face action if he is at fault: Vijayan Pillai MLA Chavara MLA Vijayan Pillai

Kottayam: Kerala MLA Vijayan Pillai, who was pulled into a controversy after cheating allegations were raised against his son Sreejith, said his son should face action if he had committed any crime.

"My son asked me not to interfere in the case," the LDF MLA from Chavara said, adding that he was not aware of the business ties of Sreejith.

"I have given the right treatment to my children. The grown up children have to take responsibilities of their actions," he added.

Allegations against Sreejith were raised soon after cheating charges were leveled by a Dubai firm against CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy.

It was alleged that Sreejith too borrowed money through Rahul Krishnan, who was a partner of the Dubai-based travel and tourism firm which lent money to Binoy as well.

Sreejith is all set to approach the Dubai court against a two-year jail term slapped on him over a bounced cheque case. He said he would convince the court that the verdict was passed without hearing his version.

As per the complaint, Sreejith, who was running a hotel in Dubai, borrowed around Rs 11 crore since 2003 from the firm in question. The case was registered after a cheque for Rs 11 crore drawn by him was bounced due to insufficient funds.

Though Sreejith was sentenced to two years' imprisonment by the local court, he had left Dubai before the verdict.
