Kochi: A court here has stayed further proceedings in an alleged rape attempt case against actor Unni Mukundan.
The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate on Sunday issued the order while considering a plea filed by the young actor.
Mukundan had earlier requested the court to prosecute the complainant woman, a Kottayam native, and the witnesses to prove his innocence.
The court had in January recorded the statement of the woman. The woman had earlier alleged a rape attempt by the young actor and had sought police protection. She had also sought cancellation of the bail granted to the actor.
Mukundan had rejected her complaint as fake.
The woman, in her complaint, had said that Mukundan tried to rape her when she went to his flat at Edappally to discuss a movie project. However, he claimed that she cooked up the allegation in a bid to trap him in a fake case, destroy his reputation, and extract money from him.
Mukundan has acted in lead roles in Malayalam and Telugu films.
