The Income Tax department has invalidated over 11 lakh PAN cards. Many card-holders were found to be in possession of two PANs. The move was aimed at removing fake cards and PAN obtained with the help of forged documents. Here is how to check if your card is still active:
• Go to income tax e-filing website
• Click on Know Your PAN
• Enter you surname, middle name, first name, status, gender, date of birth and registered mobile number as applicable.
• Click submit
• You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Use this to validate your query.
• If your PAN card is valid, it will be shown as 'Active.'
An amendment to the Income-Tax Act has made it mandatory to cite the Aadhaar number on income tax returns and applications for PAN from July 1.
