Peruvayal: A Haritha Karma Sena (green task force) has been formed in the Peruvayal panchayat, Kozhikode, for waste management. Around 37 tonnes of plastic waste collected by the task force members in the initial phase, has been sent for recycling.
The members of the 47-strong task force earlier took part in a two-day training programme. They also carried out a house-to-house survey to prepare an estimate of the amount of waste generated in the area and distributed pamphlets dealing with waste management.
The duties allotted to the task force include processing biodegradable waste at the source itself, collecting non-biodegradable waste and sending it for recycling and carrying out cleaning activities by observing ‘Dry days’.
Grama panchayat president Y V Santha said that the task force members will help households and business establishments in managing their bio waste at source. The fee charged by the task force from each household for collecting waste is just Rs 30.
