What is Virat Kohli's bat speed? Keralite brothers have the answer Kiran Joseph and his brother Arjun Joseph designed an equipment called 'Bat Sense'.

Chennai: The technology to measure the speed of a delivery is nothing new in cricket. But at what speed would have Virat Kohli swung the bat to send Lasith Malinga's ball beyond the boundary? Champions Trophy 2017 has answered that question too. An equipment called 'Bat Sense', attached to the handle of the bat, will give the speed of each shot to the viewer.

The equipment was designed by Keralite youngsters – Kiran Joseph and his brother Arjun Joseph - who run the 'Joseph Design' in Chennai. Their parents, Susheel Joseph and Ramani, are also settled in Chennai. Intel provided technical assistance to Bat Sense which was manufactured by Bengaluru-based firm Specular.

Kiran and Arjun said cricket training would get smarter with Bat Sense. The device, containing a chip, would provide data in 3D format through a mobile app.

Details including speed of the bat, time taken to react to the ball, power of the shot and bat angle can be seen on the app. This will help aspiring cricketers to perfect their shots. Trainers can use this to evaluate the daily progress of the players.

Joseph Design took eight months to complete the model of Bat Sense. It was used in Champions Trophy, but has not been made available in the market yet.

Kiran and Arjun launched 'Joseph Design' in 2010 after completing their studies in the United States.

They have to their credit several designs, including the 'Newsmaker Trophy' of Manorama News.
