Kochi: Kerala Blasters have received a boost ahead of their Indian Super League (ISL) tie against Mumbai City FC on Sunday with defender Wes Brown, who missed the side’s first two matches due to an injury, regaining match-fitness.

The team’s fortunes will be bolstered by the return of the veteran center-back, said Blasters captain Sandesh Jhingan on Friday.

Former Manchester United star defender Brown, who sustained a thigh injury during practice ahead of the team’s opening tie against ATK, said he was looking forward to return to action against Mumbai City FC on Sunday.

“I’m fit and available for our next match against Mumbai City FC. It will be an exciting experience to play alongside talented Indians like Lalruatthara, Rinto Anto and Jinghan,” Brown, who has guarded United’s defense in over 200 English Premier League matches, said.

Blasters have managed to pick up just two points from two games so far, but according to Brown, they have the quality to beat any side on their day. “Two draws are not bad results at all. However, we have to start scoring goals. Sunday’s match is great opportunity to end the the goal drought,” Brown said, adding that there was no additional pressure on Iain Hume or C K Vineeth to score goals.

Speaking about their next opponents, he said: “Mumbai have three very good defenders. But by deploying three strikers, we will be able to make inroads into their defense. Every team has strengths and weaknesses.”

“I have managed to acclimatize and blend with others quickly. I didn’t find it difficult to cope with the weather here. However, when not raining, it is a bit hot and humid. I’m always in touch with my family back in England. My wife and three children are planning to travel to Kochi to celebrate Christmas here,” Brown added.
