Success

Kochi: Of all living beings in this planet, man is different. Unlike other living beings, who don’t have any obligation towards life, man is eternally in search for a meaning to his life. He is not just satisfied with having just food and drink and other entertainments but he is obsessed with finding the meaning to his life.

However, a man doesn’t have enough time at his disposal for his obsession. Every scholar or illiterate will only get 24 hours in a day. If one procures a degree from a foreign university and joins a multinational company, he or she is deemed as successful. But there are others who steer away from this path and go to work in the villages. However, there are people who do service in villages while working in multinational companies.

Evangelist and brand marketing chief of Google, Gopi Kallayil finds time to do five things in a day. Let us examine what are those five things which have proved to be helpful to this busy bee.

Spirituality

This involves yoga, meditation and prayers. After spending some time early morning in spirituality, Gopi’s mind is refreshed to take on the demands of corporate business for the day. His mind is tuned to tackle everything heads on.

Health

Gopi says there are many factors that will lead to a sound and healthy mind. A combination of mental, physical, emotional, financial and spiritual health is needed for a healthy body. Both mental and spiritual healths, which are important, are of no use if the body suffers from disease to internal organs for example liver. For physical well-being exercise and diet control are very important. Have you ever thought why rich people eat very little food. While illiterate gorge themselves on beef and biryani, the scholar restricts himself to just salad. And that makes a lot of difference.

Financial health is equally important. If man is not financially sound his emotional health deteriorates. He may not have lost all his money on gambling but if he had made a bad investment in a money scheme he may suffer emotional breakdown. All is lost if a man doesn’t have peace of mind.

Gopi keeps special relationship with family friends and with 100 people who are close with him. Parents and close friends come under this list. He visits them personally many times a year and contacts are not restricted to just phone calls and through facebook posts.

Professional love

You cannot court success in career without loving your work. Job satisfaction will naturally lead to other form of health. But Gopi is not workaholic and he strikes a nice balance between job and life.

Personal likes

Gopi finds time to pursue his personal likes. Travel, music, reading, marathon, speeches are his personal likes. For other persons personal likes may differ. But one is tempted to ask if Gopi finds time pursue all his passion. Will 24 hours be enough for him? Gopi sleeps for eight hours. Seven hours sleep is mandatory for any human being. Gopi follows these five principles and ignores many luxuries in life like cinema, parties etc.

People can take a leaf from Gopi’s life and follow his five principles on life. But for those who are unemployed, professional love is out of question. People who find pleasure in drinking and gambling may not be interested in books, cinema, travel, yoga and prayers. And they don’t have to spent time for this. There is another set of people who spend all their time eating and sleeping. They have enough time at their disposal and they don’t harm anyone. And it is where the title of K.T Mohammed’s old play becomes relevant ‘You try to be a good human being’.

Tailpiece: There is one group of people in the world who do only one or two things in life. And gambling (playing cards) is an obsession to them. They spent sleepless night gambling and for them 24 hours is just not enough. They may gain lakhs or may lose all of it.
