The Indo Amines Ltd is situated barely 300 metres away from the site of the disaster that struck Amudan Chemicals Pvt Ltd with multiple explosions-cum-blaze on May 23, claiming over a dozen lives and more than 60 injured.
The building, which accommodates labourers from the nearby commercial area, also houses many Malayalis.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the house.
The cause of the fire was not known immediately and the railway police are investigating the matter.
The deceased identified as Rajendran (53), succumbed to his burns.
Venjarammoodu police arrested the accused and took him to a rehabilitation centre in Peroorkada.
“They only want lives to be lost and then trigger the machinery," the court observed.
The owner of the shop suspects foul play in the incident and has lodged a complaint with the police.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
