Alappuzha: At a time when obtaining a ration card remains a hard task for many, a man here had the good luck of receiving two on New Year day! The cards were sent to P T Sabu of Kuppapuram by the Kuttanad Taluk Civil Supplies office, where people had staged a protest after they failed to get even the single card that is due to them.
One of the cards that Sabu received has the name and address entered correctly. But in the second one the card owner's name is given as Babu, though his photo and age and his brother's name are correct.
The card in which the name is entered correctly is a white one from the general category. The other one is a blue card from the general category, which allows a subsidy.
Sabu applied for change of the owner's name after the death of his mother in whose name the original card existed.
In one of the cards, only two people are entitled for ration. The other one has the number of members correctly, but the name of the brother's daughter is wrongly entered.
Sabu has returned the wrongly done cards to the Supply Officer for cancellation.
