Hindi remake of ‘Drishyam’ to star Ajay Devgan Jeethu Joseph (L) and Ajay Devgn

Panaji(Goa): The role of Georgekutty that Mohanlal portrayed in the much acclaimed film ‘Drishyam’ will be essayed by Ajay Devgn in the Hindi remake, director Jeethu Joseph told Manorama Online from Goa, where he was a guest at the International Film Festival of India.

After the Kannada and Telgu remakes, the Tamil remake ‘Papanasham’ directed by him and starring Kamal Haasan will be released in the first half of 2015.

While it was Georgekutty’s daughter character who was the molestation victim in the Malayalam version, as per the discussions for the Hindi remake, it will most likely have the hero’s sister character as the victim. There were requests for Jeethu to take up the direction, but he could not accept it due to other commitments. In Drishyam, the hero belonged to a Christian community, whereas in the Tamil remake, Kamal Haasan is a Hindu Nadar. Except for this difference, all the other sequences have repeated and the location is the same too.

The remake experience was slightly boring at times, especially as the sequences and scenes were repeated, says Jeethu. The most exciting part was being able to experience how two leading actors portrayed the same role in different styles that were unique to them. When Mohanlal excelled in controlled acting, keeping in check emotions, Kamal Haasan delved deep when it came to expressing emotions, and with all the melodrama that Tamil cinema calls for. They took Georgekutty through different planes and levels of acting.

His next film will have Dileep in the lead role. Once the Post Production works of Papanasham is completed, he will begin shooting by December. The Dileep film is slated for a July 2015 release. Jeethu was at the festival this time with his wife Linda, who was also the costume designer for his films Memories & Drishyam.
