Upcoming Dileep-starrer Kammara Sambhavam has already caught the interest of cinema lovers for the refreshing new look of the protagonist. Superstar Dileep will reportedly appear as a 30-year-old youth and a 90-year-old.
Dileep's looks as the old man, as seen in the first posters of the film released recently, has been appreciated by cine-goers. His looks are being compared to one of Kamal Haasan’s in the superhit Tamil movie Indian in which the veteran actor too had played dual roles.
Ratheesh Ambattu, the director of Kammara Sambhvam , revealed the secret behind Dileep’s amazing makeover as an old man in the movie. He said that actor’s facial features have been inspired by those of Dileep’s father and film-maker Lal Jose’s father. Features of both these people have been combined to create Dileep's unique appearance as the 90-year-old Kammaran and it suited Dileep well.
Initially, the film crew had tried to create an appearance with the help of an image-rendering software only with Dileep’s face as reference, but it did not turn out as good as the director had imagined.
Ambattu said five different looks were tried before zeroing in on the present aspect of the nonagenarian character of Kammaran in the movie.
“We used the looks and features of Dileep’s father and Lal Jose’s father as references. Dileep obviously looks like his father. I have seen Lal Jose’s father many times. He has white locks and a unique moustache. When the looks of both the men were combined, we got the perfect face for Kammaran,” says Ambattu.
Dileep had to sit through a gruelling make-up session. It took him five hours for him to transform into the 90-year-old character. A prosthetic make-up team headed by NG Roshan did a great job in achieving the perfect look for Dileep’s character.
For the shooting to begin at 8 am, Dileep and his team of talented make-up artists had to get started by at least 3 am. Since this prosthetic make-up lasts for only five hours after application, Dileep’s scenes in this look had to be shot within that duration.
The scenes in which a clean-shaven Dileep appears was filmed way before the actor got arrested in the infamous actress attack case. Meanwhile, the portions of the movie in which Dileep spots a dense beard was shot towards late last year.
