Kerala is not so happy: Manorama News survey

Kochi: Keralites, who claim to have high standards of living in terms of physical and social conditions, are not so happy, according to Manorama News Happiness survey.

The survey said that the happiness index of Keralites stands at 4.4 out of 10. The index was inferred from an analysis of the survey conducted to find out the factors and services that keep the participants happy.

In what should be embarrassing to the state, as much as 72 percent of the participants opined that corruption was rampant in the state. Only 24 percent expressed satisfaction over the services provided by the government.

The survey also revealed the shocking information that 14 percent of the participants or their women relatives have been molested or insulted in public.

However, 69 percent of participants said they were satisfied with their life. As much as 79 percent participants said they were content with their health.

A key area of concern is the social security of the elderly people. As much as 55 percent participants said they were anxious of security of elders.

The survey revealed that friendship was the biggest source of happiness for the youth. Interestingly, 40 percent of participants expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of Malayalam films while 42 percent said they were satisfied.
