Kochi: The Kerala government has set in motion the process related to land acquisition for the extension of Kochi Metro up to Kakkanad. A social impact survey will collect feedback from the residents and business establishments likely to be affected by the Metro line to the technology corridor.
The Kerala Voluntary Health Services Kottayam unit will start the survey from June 4.
The Ernakulam district collector has requested the people to extend all support to the team when it visits their areas.
The proposed 11.2 kilometre stretch from the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor to Infopark at Kakkanad is part of Kochi Metro's phase 1B project. The government is expected to acquire 2.8603 hectares of land for the line. This includes 0.8940 hectares in the Edappally village, 0.3469 hectares and 0.6796 hectares in block 8 and 9 of the Vazhakkala village and 0.9398 hectares in the Kakkanad village.
The project will also take up. 0.0167 hectares in the Poonithura village at Palarivattam for the "peer location".
The social impact study is the first step in fixing compensation for those affected by the project and rehabilitating them. The government entrusted the Kerala Voluntary Health Services as per an order on May 19.
