Thiruvananthapuram: Well-known documentary director Baiju Chandran has said the presence of mainstream Hollywood movies will not harm film festivals as long as there are good movies and delegates.

In an exclusive interview to Onmanorama, Baiju Chandran said festivals must feature all kind or genre of movies.

"Film festivals must have all kinds of movies, whether its from Hollywood or the other. Presence of Hollywood movies will not harm any festivals," said Baiju Chandran when asked about the scores of mainstream Hollywood movies featured in the fest.

"Here we have some movies like 'Life of Pi'. It's not a bad thing to have movies from Hollywood," he said. "It's the responsibility of the delegate to create literacy about world movies and choose good films for viewing".

"If you ask me, I like Iranian films. I like films telling stories about human life. 3D movies are not my cup of tea.

"If someone wants to watch these kind of movies, let them watch it. There are no rules for watching movies in festivals," he added.

Good start for IFFK

"I've been here since the first festival in this city. Then there were only two theatres and a few delegates. Now it has grown with better facilities for delegates and films," he said.

"No one is denied a chance here as there are enough seats to accomodate all delegates. It's a good start," he said.

Lauding the organisers, Baiju Chandran said the move to increase the capacity of Tagore and Nishagandhi theatres has helped the festival's success.

However, he said he failed to watch some movies due to rush. Taking it positively, the director said it is a good sign.
