Sex is not meant to be flaunted over Internet A teenager browsing the Internet. AP

The ban on porn sites is seen as an encroachment on individual freedom. Even as the central government’s move triggers a debate on the limits of freedom, it is worrying to learn that 40 per cent of visitors to porn sites are from India. This means there is something really wrong about our society.

There are more reasons to be concerned when we read it along with the fact that India has become one of the countries that top the chart in sexual crimes against women and children.

How is it a crime when somebody is watching porn in the privacy of his home? detractors ask. It is a superficial question. This affects the mental balance of the viewer. His perspective on women becomes unhealthy and that creates repercussions within marriage and outside of it. When children are also drawn into the dark side of the net, our future darkens.

We have heard of the shocking incident of a juvenile delinquent who sedated his mother by mixing sleeping pills in milk and made her pregnant. Contemporary youth is going against all relations as we had known. They need immediate therapy.

Sex is an integral part of life. Sexual desires emerge even in childhood. Parents and teachers have a duty to divert this energy to creativity. They not only fail that duty but themselves give in to perversions.

The young generation is heading for sexual anarchy through porn sites. They do not realize that sexuality is not something to be flaunted over the Internet. We do not have to view this ban on porn sites as a reflection of a medieval attitude. This is only a means to remind us of the darkest corners of the Internet.

It is scary to see the Indian youth crawling in evil tendencies. Don’t we have anything better to oppose other than the porn site ban?
