Ash, Saif in 'Ahalya' director's next Aishwarya and Saif Ali Khan

Sujoy Ghosh, who helmed the much-acclaimed Bengali short film Ahalya, has roped in two leading stars of B-town for his next project.

Sujoy's next film will be the Hindi adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s Japanese novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X'. Balaji Motion Pictures, who had acquired the rights to the best-selling thriller around two years ago, will produce it.

The film will bring together Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan for the first time onscreen and will also have Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a pivotal role. Sujoy had worked with Nawazuddin in his 2012 blockbuster Kahaani.

It is understood that Kangana Ranaut was Sujoy's first choice to play the female lead opposite Saif, but it has now emerged that Aishwarya will don the role.

According to reports, the production will go on the floors once both Saif and Aishwarya wrap up their current commitments. Aishwarya is currently busy with Jazbaa, directed by Sanjay Gupta.

Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles, is also understood to be loosely based on 'The Devotion of Suspect X'. The movie, which is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name released worldwide today.
