From left: Artists Manoj Mohanty, Satyabrata Sahoo, Sonali Laha, Girish Behera and Digbijayee Khatua selected for the 10-day residency programme at VagamonKochi: Kochi Biennale Foundation has selected five young artists for the fourth batch of the Post-Graduate Residency programme at Vagamon in Idukki district. The artists will be working with watercolour during the 10-day residency programme, which commenced on July 22.
The post-graduate residency programme is part of Kochi Biennale Foundation's outreach initiatives and gives young artists a space to exchange ideas and knowledge, learn new art practices, engage in dialogue, and work in a collaborative environment. The selected artists are also encouraged to meet and interact with locals for a better understanding of the space.
The selected artists for this month's residency programme are Manoj Mohanty, Digbijayee Khatua, Sonali Laha, Girish Behera and Satyabrata Sahoo.
Riyas Komu, Secretary of KBF, explains that watercolour was traditionally used for conducting studies, besides using them for large works and sketches while artists were away from the studio. “It has the characteristic of immediacy. This helps the artists convert their imagination to the canvas or paper,” he said. “The residency programme will help these passionate young artists by shedding more light on the specified medium and its use.”
The residency is organised in association with Palette People Foundation and HCL.
